Beauty and fashion trend: (Ultra)Violet rises

Pantone, the authority for color standardization, has recently declared ultraviolet as the color of the year.  On its website, Pantone described ultraviolet as a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade” that evokes “originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking.”

Luckily for patrons of Araneta Center, there are a lot of fashion and beauty choices at the Center’s establishments that feature products in (ultra)violet or similar hues.

Pop in purple

Because of its vibrant color, violet and those in its hues are not for the faint of heart when it comes to making sartorial choices.

Wearing purple would definitely make you pop in a room full of people, just like these pieces from Jill by Jojie Lloren (Rustan’s) and Criselda Lontok (Rustan’s).

For separate pieces, contrast is key. A darker shade of violet like plum or mulberry would require a white or lighter partner, while black and darker pieces go well with lighter shades of violet like lavender.

Violet items also complement as a pop of color for an otherwise subtle getup just like this ensemble from Uniqlo (Gateway Mall).

Plum-tastic accessories

Because of their bold and attractive hue, violets work well in accessories to liven up your getup even more.

Parfois’ visual merchandiser believes that while contrast is still the key for accessorizing using violet pieces, these items also go well with brown, pink, orange and green accessories and clothes especially when you are feeling a little playful.

Cosmic choice

Pantone adds that “ultraviolet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.”

Such is also the case when it comes to choosing violets for cosmetics—they convey a mysterious yet playful and youthful persona.

Beauty advisers from Mac (Rustan’s), JCat (Gateway Mall) and Watsons (Gateway Mall, Ali Mall and New Farmers Plaza) caution women from going all-out on violet when applying makeup.

“Just choose a body part to highlight,” Gina Pie Almadin of Mac Cosmetics said. “Contrast is very important.)

So if you use a violet eye makeup, it is advised that you pick a nude colored or lighter cosmetic for the lips and vice versa.

Loving lavender

Aside from being attractive for packaging materials, the color violet has also inspired a number of wellness products with lavender being a popular ingredient for items such as soaps, lotions and massage oils.

Just as it is fragrant, lavender has been said to help reduce emotional stress and aid sleep.

These items prove that more than just being a trending color, (ultra)violet has also inspired many of our fashion and beauty choices.
